Juan Parades’ North Falmouth restaurant Celestino’s is named for his middle name, which means “celestial,” a dining experience he strives to deliver.
Prior to opening in March 2014, Juan operated a restaurant of the same name in Chatham, which
specialized in primarily French cuisine. Celestino’s North features European cuisine with a French flair. Juan, who grew up in Falmouth, works closely with the executive chef, his son, Juan Jr., to create a menu that he believes is elegant but unpretentious. “We do a creative
presentation, but it’s also classic,” Juan said.
While the lamb is the most popular dish, other favorites include steak and seafood, although it is not the fried variation that is often synonymous with Cape Cod, with offerings such as crab stuffed flounder and salmon florentine. “We get our seafood every day from Cape Fish and Lobster, so our seafood special is determined by the catch of the day,” Juan said.
Having a daughter who is gluten intolerant has made Juan particularly mindful of dietary restrictions, which he also takes into account when
preparing the menu, offering several gluten-free options, in addition to various vegetarian dishes.
Everything at Celestino’s is made from scratch, from pasta to dessert. Weekend breakfast features homemade crepes and Belgian waffles, along with traditional breakfast fare with a twist. “We put a lot of effort into everything we do. We really take pride in it,” Juan said. “If you’re going to work at something, you have to be passionate about it.”
Juan decorated the interior of the 75-seat restaurant himself, with a vision of creating an intimate ambiance reflective of the quality of service
and food he aims to provide, with paintings by local artists adorning the walls. The bar offers creative cocktails and an extensive wine list.
The restaurant’s Supper Club awards members with exclusive offers and savings, and although Juanhas regular patrons, he is still working to increase his visibility.
Tucked on North Falmouth Highway a few doors down from the Silver Lounge and next to Taylor Rental, it can be easy to miss.
“We’re a hidden gem,” Juan said.
